| Okay, due to popular request, I've written an email routing system for the chromehenge.ca domain. What does this mean? It means you've got an @chromehenge.ca address!
Simply send an email to <UserAlias> @chromehenge.ca, and the email will be routed to the user's registered email address. The <UserAlias> is the user's Display Name (in dotNetBB-speak), as seen to the left of their posts.
This will only work for users who have valid characters in their Display Name, according to Email RFC standards. These characters are:
- All letters (A-Z, a-z)
- All digits (0-9)
- Dash (-)
- Underscore (_)
- Period (.)
If the recipient has one or more spaces in their display name, then replace them with one or more plusses (+). For example, Nscafe Unleaded becomes Nscafe+Unleaded. (While the plus sign is also a valid character for an email address, the email router converts it to a space, so anyone with a plus in their display name will not get emails addressed to them.)
If you have invalid characters in your display name and you'd like to take advantage of your @chromehenge.ca address, you can change your display name in your Control Panel, under Edit Profile.
Please note that at this time there is no provision to send emails from your chromehenge.ca address through the Chromehenge mail server. If your ISP lets you, you could set up your email client to send emails addressed from your Chromehenge address through your own ISP.
Also, if someone sends you an email through Chromehenge and you reply to them, they will see your true email address (unless you configure your client otherwise). If you don't want them to know your true email address, then don't reply, or reply to them via PM on Chromehenge. There is a small reminder of this appended to the bottom of routed email messages. As for the senders, the recipient will see the email address you're sending from.
Any incoming emails that don't match anyone's display name get routed to /dev/null (the big bitbucket in the sky). If the recipient's email address is no longer valid, the email will be bounced back to the sender (Make sure your address is up to date!).
If you have any questions about this service, post them in Suggestions / Complaints. If you have any questions about how to configure your email client, then post them in Gheekspeak.
*Note: This feature is only in beta right now. Please mind the sawdust.
