Pan's Labyrinth looks to be an interesting movie.

I would give it four out of five. Five out of five if the last two minutes of the movie didn't exist. I rather enjoyed the thought of such a politically driven movie having an ending that was not only not happy but actually shocking and mildly disturbing. I guess I just expect too much.

We enjoyed the movie also. Downloaded in, spanish, or latin... before it came out in theaters and I made my husband watch a movie with subtitles. Was fun to watch in it's original language. I'd give it 5 out of 5, but I like movies about choice that have happy ending. It's nice to think that if you make the right choices, for the most part, that you won't end up being not happy and disturbed. Also, there's enough shockingly disturbing things in real life to keep me ... shocked and disturbed.

I think the ending of this movie (without giving out spoilers) is open to interpretation. Sage thought it was a sad ending, and I thought it was a happy ending. I guess it's all in your viewpoint.

That alone is what makes this movie quite good.

I agree! I was both sad and happy about the ending. We are hoping there will be a sequel, it would be neat to see what happens when... well when whatever. ;)

I don't know if a sequel could (or even should) be made from this movie. Leaving the ending as open as it is prompts thought and discussion.

However, I would like to see other movies in the same universe and style as this one. Different stories from the same mythos, as it were, with perhaps a couple character crossovers here and there.

I don't believe Pan's is offered in anything other then the original spanish version with subtitles. I know that's the version in theaters. Dubbed movies often lose alot in the translation as the writers are generally more focused on matching the lips then staying true to the subject matter.

Rask is right, a sequel would be nothing more (in my eyes) then a vain attempt to cash in on Pan's sucess. Sequels should never be made for monetary reasons.

On a completely unrelated note, I watched Marie Antoinette the other night. Wow is Sophia Copola ever an odd woman. The movie is wonderfully written and approached with a great objective (to try and show things from Antoinette's point of view) but how does a movie about the last queen of France not end in a beheading?! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?! We all know that's how it's SUPPOSE to end, damnit!!

This was a brilliant movie. A sequel isn't necessary, although they could possible get away with making another movie along the same theme/style.
